Who am I?

kayleigh ayn bohémier
Hello. My name is Kaye Bohémier, or Kayleigh Ayn Bohémier ... or Kayleigh/Kaye. Please use the accent in my last name — it magically helps people pronounce it and I don’t know why.

And now for a bit about me.

In the late, late spring of 1987, I was born beneath the aegis of the double rainbow in gorgeous Upstate New York — right in the middle of the gorge-carved Finger Lakes Region. While I spent my formative years in the Finger Lakes/Southern Tier, my family moved to Missouri when I was seven. Throughout my childhood, I remembered the gorges, weather, and natural beauty of the landscape of my childhood — especially during the hot, sticky Missouri summers that lasted from April until October.

At eighteen, I “moved” (as many college students do) and spent eight months of every year in Northampton, MA, at Smith College. At Smith, I majored in English and minored in Astronomy. I was also an Astronomy teaching assistant. Because most people realize I am a geek within five minutes of opening a conversation with me, I feel comfortable verifying that: I spent 3.5/4 years in the Smith Science Fiction and Fantasy Society (SSFFS) and one year as the Gaming Chair. Additionally, I co-chaired another group.

After attaining my degree in 2009, I took a year off before graduate school (which is where I am now). I am pursuing my MLIS with a specialization in eScience Librarianship, a new, “edgy” field still very much in development. Much of my coursework involves metadata librarianship. Due to my interest in astronomy, I have attempted to link much of my coursework to that amazing field. In June 2011, my research partner and I took a poster about our research on scientific data management policies at public and private research institutions (universities and colleges) to the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries.

While not going to graduate school or working on my eScience-related duties, I write fiction and poetry. My work has appeared in several different venues, visible in the Writing section of this web site. In my poetry, I work to synthesize mythologies and nature with current experience. While tied to no particular structure, I love the pop and crackle of regular rhythm and look for a rawness in the structure and imagery of each poem, with the goal of creating a sacred profaneness that unsettles and intrigues each reader’s subconscious.

Occasionally, I do things involving HTML, CSS, and social media for other people. It may surprise people my age, but social networking finesse and web development skills are often taken for granted in our generation, and many who are older or just less exposed to technologically often prefer help if they’re setting something up, especially for their public face or start-up nonprofit.
